Spectacular group hike this weekend on the Taconic Crest thru New York to Pownal Vermont to the wild Snow Hole! A 6 mile in and back hike thru abandoned grazing fields now covered with waist high ferns and a few lookouts along the way. The Snow Hole is a vertical fissure in the bedrock lined with mosses and other moisture-loving plants. One end offers a fairly easy descent to the bottom while the other end is a 60-foot drop. But the fissure is narrow enough and deep enough that its bottom never

View from the first lookout northbound on the Taconic Crest Trail from the Petersburg Pass parking lot. Our July group hike took us to New York starting at Petersburg Pass we hiked the Taconic Crest Trail Northbound to the infamous Snowhole 6 miles in and back with a few climbs, but mostly a very doable hike for all. Entering the Hopkins Memorial Forest across from the large parking lot after an immediate climb we visited an impressive view West to New York however Canada forest fire smoke fogge

Shadow wave on the Taconic Crest Trail in Petersburg NY. We went to the snow hole - which often has snow in it in July - and there was no snow in it...on December 25th! | Walk Your Dog With Love - World's Best Dog Harness
